ORLANDO MOLINA

ABOUT

(…) his gorgeous tone on both electric and
nylon guitars was dominant,(...) his lines so authentic and well placed and his persona and stage presence
both authoritative and calming.”
 – Magy’s Farm

Venezuelan guitarist and composer Orlando Molina has emerged as a distinctive voice in contemporary jazz, crafting music that bridges Latin American traditions with modern jazz aesthetics. Based in Ireland for over a decade, he combines sophistication, narrative depth, and instrumental mastery.

Molina’s artistry is defined by his fluent command of both nylon-string and electric guitars. This dual fluency enables him to move seamlessly between centuries of Latin American guitar tradition and the contemporary language of jazz improvisation. Jazzwise highlighted how everything he plays is in service of the composition,” reflecting a disciplined approach where technical prowess always serves expressive purpose.

Before launching his solo career, Molina built a distinguished trajectory as a sideman and session musician, performing across the U.S., U.K., Israel, Spain, Ireland, Cuba, Egypt, the Netherlands, and Venezuela. He has performed for renowned artists and public figures including Wynton Marsalis, Rubén Blades, David Bisbal, and Irish President Michael D. Higgins (on three occasions). His collaborations include Grammy winners Gustavo Dudamel, Miguel Siso, and Ella Bric, as well as the legendary Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, RTE Orchestra, Andreas Morricone, Ronan Guilfoyle, David Pabón among many others. His performances have graced major venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center, The National Concert Hall, Cork Jazz Festival,  Bray Jazz Festival, Teatro Teresa Carreño, and Electric Picnic among many others.

Molina offers audiences a refined and deeply human experience — music that is not merely cross-cultural but profoundly communicative, offering audiences an authentic journey marked by adaptation, cultural fusion, and emotional honesty. In the landscape of European jazz today, Molina's voice is both rooted and forward-looking: rooted in Latin and jazz tradition, forward-looking in scope and thematic purpose.

ORLANDO MOLINA
RELEASES NEW ALBUM

"AUTORRETRATO
EN TRES COLORES"

On May 23, 2025, guitarist and composer Orlando Molina released his debut album as a bandleader, Autorretrato en Tres Colores (Self-Portrait in Three Colours) — a deeply personal yet uplifting musical journey rooted in themes of migration, resilience, and reinvention.

Blending contemporary jazz with South American folk traditions, this seven-track album tells a story of departure, adaptation, and transformation — not through a lens of hardship, but with optimism, warmth, and hope. The narrative, while shaped by the challenges of migration, is told from a positive point of view: one that highlights the strength found in change and the beauty of cultural fusion.

"a classy debut" - Jazzwise
-
"An emotional memoir told through harmony and rhythm — a work that resonates far beyond borders.” - Jazz Ireland

Each composition was written during a different stage of Orlando's journey — from Venezuela to Ireland — and together they form a cohesive and lyrical memoir. The general mood of the album is fresh and kind, with vibrant rhythms, expressive solos, and richly melodic writing that offers both emotional depth and openness.

Reflecting its core themes of integration and creative dialogue, the album features an exceptional international ensemble, including Matthew Jacobson (drums, Ireland), Scott Flanigan (piano & rhodes piano, Northern Ireland), Cormac O’Brien (double bass, Ireland), and Steve Welsh (saxophones, USA), along with guest artists: Latin Grammy Prize winner Miguel Siso (Venezuela), Boris Schmidt (Luxembourg), Pablo Contreras (Chile), Freddy Adrian (Venezuela), Gilbert Mansour (Lebanon), Alicia Garcia (Mexico), and Eric Chacón (Venezuela).

Autorretrato en Tres Colores is more than a jazz record — it’s a universal story of growth, belonging, and identity, conveyed through lyrical melodies and vibrant interplay — it is jazz as narrative, as cultural diplomacy, as emotional architecture.
